In March 1943, the 617 Lancaster Squadron trained for a top secret mission. The Squadron's training was conducted along the Derwent Valley, just west of Sheffield. The mission was the now
famous "Dam Busters" raid on the Ruhr Valley in Germany and now you can take a nostalgic helicopter flight from Sheffield to visit where those courageous Dam Busters trained.
These really rather special helicopter sightseeing tours give you the opportunity to fly along 617 Squadron's training route down the Derwent Valley and over the twin dams whilst enjoying
fabulous views of beautiful countryside from a modern four seater Bell Jet Ranger helicopter.
Flights last around 30 minutes according to weather and Air Traffic Control conditions. Unless you are a party of four, you will be sharing your helicopter ride with up to three other
passengers.
